Casino Nova Scotia Regatta for the Cure - July 3, 2010

July 3 (Sat): Casino Nova Scotia Regatta for the Cure
The second annual C
asino Nova Scotia’s Regatta for the Cure will be held at the Shearwater Yacht Club on July 3, 2010. to raise funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Atlantic Region, and to help celebrate those who are fighting (or who have fought and won) against breast cancer.  Last year we raised $21,000!
8:00 AM -
Breakfast is served!  All Regatta participants should join us for a hearty regatta breakfast.
9:00 AM - Crews can finish decorating their boats (for the sail parade!), planning race strategies or doing registration.
12:00 PM - Lunch - a BBQ!!
1:00 PM - The sail boats start out, by class, for an invigorating race around the harbour.
This fun filled day has a new component to include all of the boating community; a poker run.  (The game is five card stud, nothing wild and may the best hand win.)
Each boat wishing to participate in the race or the poker run will be given pledge sheets for their crew members to be sponsored. This year sponsorship can be done online early in May. The entrance fee for the regatta is $100 but will be waived if $120 is raised through pledges. The boats participating in the poker run will be classified as one team (one hand) and the entrance fee/buy in works the same as those boats racing.
All of the money raised will go the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Atlantic.  Last year’s racers enjoyed a beautiful sunny day with lots of wind and a memorable start from the tall ship Liana’s RansomJerry Bourgeois has agreed to head the race committee for the regatta again this year. Krista Olmstead; a member from Armdale Yacht Club, will be on the committee line with her pink Cape Islander, Foxglove.  Upon their return to Shearwater Yacht Club the Silent Auction will be in full swing and a BBQ will be held as a meet and greet for everyone. Prizes will be given out for place finishers from the race, best hand and best theme boats from the parade.   Don’t have sea legs? Come watch the parade of boats, then hear the banter before and the stories after the races. It will be a day of laughter and confirmation of the human spirit into the night.   For information on how to enter the parade of boats, the race, poker run, sponsorship or to volunteer contact AJ Quarmby-Bennett, Event Coordinator, or Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Atlantic www.cbcf.org/atlantic.
